Jennings Avenue Bridge Replacement

HOT SPRINGS, SOUTH DAKOTA

Jennings Avenue serves as a connector roadway to the historic Main Street in Hot Springs. Spanning the scenic Fall River, the existing 1934 bridge required replacement due to significant deterioration and aging.

With funding attained through the South Dakota Bridge Improvement Grant program, the City hired Brosz to complete the environmental documentation, permitting, design, and construction of the Jennings Avenue Structure Replacement project. Brosz’s role in the project consisted of an original topography and legal survey, preliminary and final design. The team also conducted right-of-way acquisition assistance, utility coordination, and Corps permit. The project replaced a 1934 120’ 2-span steel girder bridge with a 125-foot-long, 2-span prestressed concrete girder bridge with a concrete deck. Work also included reconstructing approximately 100’ of the existing street. Construction wrapped up in the fall of 2020.
