Big Nasty Creek Bridge Replacement

Some believe Big Nasty Creek received its name from its discolored water. Others say the stream was “nasty to cross”.  While still others say the name was descriptive of the cowboys who frequented the area. In any case, the original structure near Ralph was deteriorating. As a result, Harding County received funding for the structure replacement through the SD Bridge Improvement Grant program.

Brosz was hired to complete the survey, permitting, and bridge design of the Big Nasty Creek Structure Replacement near Ralph, SD. Brosz’s role in the project consisted of an original topography and legal survey, preliminary and final design. The team also provided right of way acquisition assistance and utility coordination. The project consisted of replacing a 102’ 3-span steel stringer bridge with a 134-foot-long two-span prestressed concrete girder bridge with a concrete deck. In addition, the replacement work included reconstructing approximately 300’ of the existing road. Contractors completed construction in 2017.
