MCKENZIE COUNTY, NORTH DAKOTA
McKenzie County is located in western North Dakota in the heart of the Williston Basin. Due to oilfield activity and heavy truck traffic, ongoing road construction is essential to the thriving community. Roads in this western North Dakota county were not originally built to accommodate increasing truck traffic and heavy loads.
Prior to construction, Route 37 was a gravel surfaced roadway but reconstruction was planned to address increased traffic volume, improve roadway durability, and consider traveler safety. The project began at the connection of Highway 85 and traveled for 14.4 miles to Highway 23. Work also consisted of reconstructing 6.6 miles on 125th Avenue from County Route 34 to Highway 23. A bridge replacement also occurred with the installation of a double cell precast box culvert.
Brosz provided environmental documentation and preliminary engineering services back in 2018. Following final landowner negotiations, construction began in 2019 and was completed in 2020. Central Specialties was the prime contractor.
