KIMBALL, SOUTH DAKOTA
In late 2020, Love’s publicly announced the construction of their newest Truck and Travel Stop located in Kimball, South Dakota. Since that announcement, Love’s, City of Kimball, and Brosz Engineering steadily worked to meet the December 2021 Grand Opening deadline.
Starting in January, Brosz reviewed Love’s construction plans and evaluated City utilities to the property. After discovering sewer main deficiencies, Brosz began a fast-paced process to help the City solve this shortfall and better service the south portion of the community. Solution alternatives for the sewer extension with cost analysis were developed and brought to City for discussion. Funding options were assessed and arranged. And the final infrastructure design was completed by April. In May, Love’s broke ground and began site grading while Brosz provided construction surveying throughout the build.
As the project progressed, construction of the City’s new sewer main began after July 4th holiday. The sewer project installed approximately 1700’ of new sewer main from lift station north of I-90 interchange and routed south past the Love’s site. The project’s major component was boring new gravity sewer main at minimum design grades across the I-90 interchange to limit public disturbance and construction costs. The new sewer main became active in September and old components were abandoned in October. Love’s site progress has also been steady with the parking lot pavement installed before the Thanksgiving holiday. Currently, the crew is installing the final components, and the project is on track to open doors before year-end! Big thank you to the City of Kimball leaders throughout the entire process – you’ve been great to work with.
