Multiple SD Counties, Bridge Inspection Inventory

The State of South Dakota relies on private engineering consultants to conduct the federally mandated county bridge inspections for structures across the state. Brosz Engineering is one of the contracted consultants serving nearly two-thirds of the counties. To date, many counties requested paper inspection reports that required file storage. Any time an issue arose with a bridge, the inspection report had to be pulled from storage.  Then, an employee would manually locate the information within a multi-page hard copy report. This process was inefficient and utilized limited resources.  

To address this issue, the Brosz bridge inspection team can now digitize the reports. The team inputs the gathered data into a mapping application. Then, the viewer, often a county highway superintendent, can click on a mapped location of a structure and view all the data found in the inspection reports. Ratings, photos, and recommendations can be accessed with one click along with the final report. Viewers of the application easily gain access to large amounts of data without having to physically store and retrieve paper bridge inspection reports. Along with current information, the application can also maintain historical data on each structure.
