YANKTON, SOUTH DAKOTA
Originally a historic concrete arch bridge with an arch span of 40’-0”, the Pine Street Bridge in Yankton was aging and in need of replacement. Although design options were limited, Brosz Engineering elected to replicate the design cues of the existing concrete arch structure. The team created a 50’-8” single span rigid frame structure with parabolic haunches and incorporated a precast bridge rail reminiscent of the era of the original structure. Located adjacent to an elementary school, a senior citizens center, and two residences, the project also included moving the existing bike path beneath the bridge to avoid crossing Pine Street, which improved trail safety and enhanced the overall aesthetic.
Brosz Engineering completed the design for the entire project, including structure design, retaining wall design, hydraulic analysis, grading plan for roadway and bike trail, erosion control plan, storm sewer, and utilities.
