PIERRE, SOUTH DAKOTA
Highland Avenue serves as a main corridor to the State Capitol Complex and surrounding amenities. As such, the City of Pierre slated Highland Avenue for complete reconstruction as it prepares for a related street repair project in 2023. The SDDOT has planned work for Euclid Avenue and has determined Highland Avenue will serve as the detour route. However, Highland Avenue first required reconstruction to sustain elevated levels of detour traffic. The route is heavily traveled, and the street section is deteriorating. There is also a 70-year old water main in need of replacing.
The $1.4 million improvement project will reconstruct North Highland Avenue from Second Street to Wynoka Street with a new water main, services, and other improvements. General contractor, Morris, Inc. of Fort Pierre, was the selected prime contractor. The team anticipates project completion for the fall of 2021.
Brosz Engineering designed the project and is currently providing construction management services for the City of Pierre.
