Sanborn Boulevard, Phase 3 Utility & Street Improvements

MITCHELL, SOUTH DAKOTA

The City of Mitchell recently completed the Sanborn Boulevard Utility and Street Improvements, a multi-year, three-phase urban street improvement project. The final and third phase included Sanborn Boulevard from 8th Avenue to 15th Avenue.  Phase I was constructed in 2018 and Phase 2 was constructed in 2019.

As part of the project, the construction team completed a 7-block concrete paving operation, placing approximately 2,020 CY of concrete continuously starting at 6:00 AM and wrapping up at the end of the day. The construction work primarily consisted of water main, sanitary and sewer improvements, along with storm sewer upgrades, concrete surfacing, curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements. Signage was also installed as needed.

Brosz Engineering provided construction engineering, on-site observation, and material testing. Additional team members include SPN & Associates, design engineer; H&W Contracting LLC, prime contractor; BX Civil & Construction, civil surfacing; and JD Concrete Products, concrete supplier.
