Town of McIntosh, Water Distribution System Improvements

MCINTOSH, SOUTH DAKOTA

The Town of McIntosh is in the boundaries of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation and is also the county seat for Corson County. In 2006, a fire destroyed the county courthouse along with all of the infrastructure maps for the community. Then in 2014, all of the institutional knowledge of the water distribution system was lost due to the sudden passing of the utility manager. The community was in desperate need of direction due to the fact that very few valves and hydrants worked throughout the community and operation was extremely difficult.

The community selected Brosz to help identify all water assets and document locations and conditions in order to develop a distribution system improvement project. Brosz and community leaders worked together to gather data, develop a plan for improvements, and provide up to date maps in order for the community record infrastructure assets.

In addition, Brosz helped secure a $900,000 grant through USDA-RD to install service meter pits with remote reading capabilities throughout the community, an underground booster pump station, and over 1,200 feet of water main. Brosz provided planning, design, and construction inspection and management services for this most critical infrastructure project.
