TRIPP COUNTY, SOUTH DAKOTA
US Highway 183 is a major north-south highway that runs through central South Dakota. This segment of primarily rural roadway needed attention to prolong the roadway’s lifespan and maintain safe driving conditions.
The project featured partial-full depth reclamation/partial-cold milling AC with a full-width overlay on US Hwy 183. The project began near White River and ended at US Hwy 18. Reclamation and milling are both environmentally friendly methods of paving that focus on recycling and repurposing to improve the roadway surface. For this project, crews placed approximately 22 miles worth of new asphalt roadway surfacing over eight months. Working with the SDDOT, Brosz Engineering assisted with asphalt laydown and QA lab testing services. Border States Paving, Incorporated was the prime contractor.
